CVPR: Inspiring the Next Generation of Research

“What I really want to do is encourage you to all think differently than what everyone else around you is thinking, because that’s where the good ideas come from,” remarked Rodney (Rod) Brooks, Panasonic Professor of Robotics (emeritus) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), during the opening of his keynote remarks yesterday.

His talk advanced that theme, asking us to shift our mindsets, including to addressing what he referred to as the “seven deadly sins of predicting the future of AI.” The points he raised must have resonated, as the afternoon keynote panel, “History and Future of Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision,” reflected back on his talk and ways the field’s history may help to inspire its future.
